Well it's time for another vacation. I'll be off with the family to Vegas, Grand Canyon, Flaggstaff, Petrified Forest, and the Meteor Crater. Can't wait! This will be my second time to Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Yay!

Buffy Meme

Stolen from teh flist...

When you see this, post another Buffy quote in your LJ. Let's see how long this can go on.

"You won. All right? You came in and you killed them and you took their land. That's what conquering nations do. It's what Caesar did, and he's not going around saying, "I came, I conquered, I felt really bad about it." The history of the world isn't people making friends. You had better weapons, and you massacred them. End of story." ~Spike

Starting today the tolls went up on the Delaware River Port Authority bridges. This includes the bridge I take to and from work everyday. The toll is being raised from $3 to $4 when crossing from Jersey to PA. You can get into New Jersey for free, but you have to pay to get out. In addition, they've reduced the commuter discount. If I crossed 18 times in a month I would get $18 back on my EZ Pass account. They've reduced it to $12. They plan to increase the toll by another $1 in 2010 and phase out the commuter discount program over the next two years. http://www.drpa.org/content.asp?page=News¶m=2&ItemNumber=2591

I heard the AC Expressway, NJ Turnpike, and Garden State Parkway are also talking about upping their tolls. I can always take a different bridge home, but it will take me a few miles out of my way. I didn't really complain about the gas prices, but paying an extra $1 a day to go to work really sucks.

A $1.00 increase September 2008, ($4.00), another $1.00 increase September 2010, ($5.00), and cost of living increases every two years after that. There will be proportional increases for all other toll classes.
A phase out of the commuter discount. The credit for 18 crossings a month on the same transponder will be reduced to $12 in September 2008, reduced to $6.00 in September 2009 and the discount would end September 2010.
The senior citizen discount will remain with a few changes. On September 14th, 2008, the senior citizen discount rate will be $2.00 - Seniors should use two (2) $1 coupons for the new toll. However, for seniors who use an E-ZPass transponder, the toll will be $1.75 -Details on the program's formal implementation are being finalized. We expect further information shortly after Labor Day. Senior citizen coupons will be sold until December 31, 2008. All senior citizens must have an E-ZPass transponder on September 1, 2010 in order to get a discount and on that date the discount toll for seniors will be $2.50. After that time the senior citizen toll will be half of the regular toll. The last time the senior discount was increased was in 1992. To participate in the Senior Discount Program, you must be 65 years or older. THE DELAWARE RIVER PORT AUTHORITY REMAINS THE ONLY TOLL AGENCY IN THE COUNTRY WITH A SENIOR DISCOUNT.
The current commercial discount will be eliminated.
CREATION OF A NEW GREEN PASS DISCOUNT. This new $1.00 discount will be offered to E-ZPass customers driving low emission vehicles that get at least 45 miles to the gallon. The vehicles must meet the California Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle or pre-model year 2005 hybrid vehicle certified to the California Ultra Low Emission Vehicle Standard. This discount is scheduled to sunset after two years."

Weekend Update

I went to see my good friend Angie. She had a memorial party for her husband. It's hard to believe that it's been over 4 month's since he passed away. He touched so many lives and was such a good soul. He will be truly missed by everyone he ever knew. Angie is doing well and is being strong, a lot stronger than I think I would be in her place.

I taught her how to get free wifi and get on the internet. I also added my LJ to her favorites so she can see what I'm up to. So if you see this Ang, know that I'll love you forever and that I'm always here for you.

Labor Day Weekend and Brief Update

This weekend I'm going to friend's father's house. We call it Camp Poppy. We camp out in the back yard and it's nice. It's not exactly real camping, but still fun. Last night I spent almost four hours making shrimp cocktail, broccoli salad, and German Potatoe Salad. It's my first time making the German Potatoe Salad, so I hope it came out ok. After hours of chopping and cooking my kitchen was a mess. I spent last night and this morning cleaning up all the dishes and the kitchen itself. This morning I've also been packing and doing laundry. After an almost Autumn like August, it's now hot and muggy again. Oh Joy. Last year I left early and didn't get to do any trap shooting, so I'm really looking forward to doing that this weekend. We also play washers and badminton, and Poppy also has a pool.

Mish-Mash Update
The past few weekends have been pretty busy. I helped out at Redhead Fangirl's Mid-Jersey Comicon. It was a lot of fun as usual. Then was Joey's (my baby brother) BD party. He's now 9 yo. Where is the time going? The other week I went to Jen's house for our usual Friday night hanging out session. We played WiiFit, which is so much fun. I was Wii-Sore for days, but I'm happy to report that my WiiFit age is 32. Whoo Hoo! Last weekend was a bridal shower. RHF and I drove out together, our mutual friend is getting married in October. RHF brought their GPS with her and I drove. I kept yelling at the GPS when it was trying to get me to go a way I didn't want to go (basically through North Philly, not a good area). Finally when we were out of the city I decided to let the GPS guide me and it made me get on Rt 309, which is not my favorite road. So I yelled at it again and told it I wouldn't have followed it's directions if I knew it was going to put me on that road. RHF was cracking up. Last Sunday was spent cleaning and relaxing. This past week I've been working in the field, so I've been pretty MIA. Lot's of early mornings and coming home dirty and tired, so I basically just showered and read a little before going to bed early. I've been reading John Adams. I finally finished Atlas Shrugged and decided to pick up John Adams again. I started reading it years ago, but put it down when I started to get bored (when Adams was in Amsterdam). I want to watch the mini-series but decided to finish the book first. It's been good and has picked up, since that one boring spot. It's pretty interesting to read about all the true politics that went on at the time. Not exactly what they taught us in grade school, or maybe I just don't remember that part.

Well, that's all that's been going on with me. Work, reading, and social weekends. Hope everyone has a great weekend and that everyone at D*C has a great time.
